We are looking for a Design Researcher

Doblin is looking to hire design researchers who want to experiment across methods to inform the products, services and customer experiences of the future.

Design researchers at Doblin bring their curiosity, empathy and interpretive skills to bear on all aspects of our work. They are responsible for uncovering and advocating for the voice of the user to inspire the design and delivery of new products, services, and experiences. At Doblin, researchers don’t just stop at insights—they frame innovation challenges, help design new propositions, and test prototypes with users.

We are interested in hearing from researchers with a strong background in ethnography, UX research and/or digital research methods. We are especially keen to meet researchers with experience connecting insights to build pragmatic, applied solutions. Crucially, you will help to connect our teams, projects and clients with the customers and citizens we seek to serve.

What you'll do

  • Designing, planning and executing user research
  • Rapid, flexible, iterative development of insights
  • Collaborating with designers, strategists and technologists to turn insights from research into solutions to business and social challenges
  • Advocating for the value of user research, and bringing client organizations along the discovery journey
  • Synthesizing and communicating research insights and findings in compelling and immersive ways
  • Supporting and leading client-facing conversations that may challenge established perspectives on their markets and customers
  • Contributing to Doblin’s expertise and tradecraft in design research

The team

Customer Strategy & Applied Design

Our Customer Strategy & Applied Design team focuses on helping clients discover, design, and prototype customer growth strategies and innovation portfolios to create and drive change in a digital world. We bring knowledge and offerings to uncover the behaviors, motivations and preferences of our clients’ customers and develop new experiences for them. Our team of professionals has deep capabilities in strategy, customer experience, digital strategy and innovation.

We deliver set of customer focused work

  • Customer Strategy - Help clients build capabilities to better understand customer value drivers and make choices about the markets and segments they serve through digital, social, and mobile channels; optimize pricing decisions and shape the most strategic issues on the CMO agenda
  • Customer Experience - Help clients improve the quality, nature and power of interactions between the customer and the organization across the lifecycle of sales, marketing and service at each and every touch point.
  • Applied Innovation - Help clients rapidly design, prototype and launch new businesses and experiences, translating insights on human behavior from design-led methods into offerings and technologies that delight customers and drive growth
  • Digital Strategy - Help clients understand, envision and articulate “digital” as a business strategy aligned with their CEO’s agenda – and then craft a plan to embed everything they do with the latest technology solutions and business models to compete in the marketplace for customers and talent


  • 2+ years relevant consulting or industry experience: market research, strategic planning agencies, UX, and anthropology
  • A relevant bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Demonstrated experience acting in a client-facing role
  • Demonstrated experience leading direct reports and/or discrete workstreams
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

  • Strong planning, organization and documentation skills
  • An interest in multiple disciplines and approaches, and the ability to quickly dive into a new domain or process
  • A collaborative nature, drawing motivation from effective teamwork
  • A passion and knowledge of the design and innovation process
  • Willingness to wear many hats and supporting team members across disciplines in our startup-like environment
