Insights Manager

Doblin is looking to hire an experienced design researcher to join our growing practice in Toronto.

We are committed to equity, inclusion, and diversity and encourage applications from all qualified candidates, especially those who identify as Indigenous, Black, POC, Women, Persons with Disabilities, and/or 2SLGBTQ+

Doblin, a Deloitte business, helps leading companies and public sector organizations to care deeply about their customers and users, in order to design and innovate. We are especially interested in hearing from researchers with a background in ethnography, UX research, service design, or other research roles that involve developing empathy for participants. Design researchers at Doblin bring their curiosity, empathy, interpretive, and storytelling skills to bear on all aspects of our work—from framing an innovation challenge to designing new propositions and testing prototypes with users. Our research is pragmatic and applied, enabling us to design, build, and act with intent. Ultimately, you will help build alliances between our team, our clients, and the customers and citizens we seek to serve.

As an Insights Manager, you will be integral to leading our multi-disciplinary teams made up of designers, strategists, and technologists. You will use empathy and deep research expertise to bring informed perspectives that challenge the status quo as we develop human-centered solutions to complex challenges. If you are passionate about applying research in new ways to tackle wicked problems for our clients and the industries in which they operate, keep reading.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Shaping and leading your team’s research agenda by planning and executing research activities (from research, to development and iteration, testing, and refinement), selecting suitable methodologies to uncover and validate customer / user and business needs
  • Guiding your team in developing provocative insights by synthesizing complex qualitative and quantitative data and exploring their implications for the ideas and solutions we develop
  • Communicating insights and recommendations in ways that shift perspectives of our teams and our clients to spur innovation and stretch their ambition
  • Designing and co-facilitating engaging workshops with internal teams, clients, and other stakeholders to share and explore insights and generate new solutions
  • Leading junior team members to synthesize key trends, sourced data and insight from Deloitte’s global network of industry and domain experts, to amplify the impact of your team’s work
  • Applying your expertise across industries and at multiple levels of ambition, while exploring new and impactful ways to get to insights
  • Contributing significantly to the development of client pitches and intellectual property, including informed perspectives on our discipline and the industries we serve
  • Developing as a leader within a community of design researchers, local and global, with incredible opportunities for mentorship and career growth

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate these characteristics:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience conducting research (e.g., design research, social science research, or market research). Bonus points for experience leading and delivering this work in a business context (agency or consultancy experience preferred)
  • Graduate degree in a human science such as: sociology, anthropology, psychology, or another insights-related field, with methodological focus on qualitative research. Bonus for familiarity with quantitative methods.
  • Sophisticated experience with typical qualitative methods (e.g., experience conducting interviews and ethnographic observations), ethical considerations, and project management
  • Ability to distill qualitative insights into design recommendations, to tell stories about those recommendations in ways designers can use, but based on traditional qualitative analytical rigor
  • A cognizance of the importance of inclusion and equity in the design process and a commitment and advocate for it within teams and with non-designer colleagues
  • Strong written and spoken communication skill that elevates the impact of our teams to our clients, and our work to their business
  • The practiced ability to link the design process and its outcomes to the larger strategy of the organization, linking the design work to other streams of work, and to the overall organizational model / business case

Does this sound like you?

If you feel like you fit some, but maybe not all of these requirements, we encourage you to still apply for this position.
